Council on Foundations Hands Out Annual Awards

A philanthropic executive with more than two decades of experience, Alicia Procello Maddox leads as the president of the Avery Dennison Foundation. Over the course of her career, Alicia Procello Maddox has worked closely with various organizations, including the Council on Foundations (COF), a nonprofit that helps philanthropic organizations advance the common good.

In recently released statements, COF announced the 2017 winners of its Distinguished Service Award and Wilmer Shields Rich Award for Excellence in Communication. Established in the group’s efforts to recognize excellence in philanthropy, the awards are presented to individuals and organizations who uplift the nonprofit sector and provide models for others to follow.
This year, COF named Ronald B. Richard its Distinguished Service Award recipient. As president and CEO of the Cleveland Foundation, Richard has advanced initiatives that provide Cleveland, Ohio, residents with greater access to arts, education, and career-readiness programs. Throughout his career, Richard has worked to address issues ranging from environmental protection and criminal justice reform to LGBT rights and police-community relations.
As COF’s 2017 Wilmer Shields Rich Award winner, Citi Foundation is honored for a communications campaign to launch its Accelerating Pathways initiative, which examined city-level policies that support youth. Through the campaign, the group reached millions and garnered the attention of national media outlets. The campaign also further established Citi Foundation as a leader in youth economic opportunities.
